LED Lights Industry Glossary Description
This glossary explains common LED lighting terms for product selection, including wattage, lumen output, CCT, beam angle, IP rating, driver and retrofit basics.
Luminous Flux
The totalamount of visible light emited bya source per unit of time, measured in lumens (im).
Beam Angle
The angle between the two planes of light where the intensity is 50% of the maximum center beam candlepower.
Color Temperature CCT
Corelated Color Temperature; a measure of the light’s color appearance, ranging from warm (yellowish)to cool (bluish), measured in Kelvin (K.
CRI(Color Rendering Index)
A quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reveal the colors of various objects faithfuly in comparison with a natural light source.
LED Driver
An electrical device that regulates the power to an LED or a string of LEDs, ensuring they operate under constant current or voltage.
Motion Sensor Lighting
Ameasurement of the harmonic distortion presentin a signa, representing the efficiency and interference level of the power supply.

LED Chip
The semiconductor component that actually converts electrical energy into light.
COB LED
Chip on Board; multiple LED chips are bonded directly to a substrate to form a single light source, offering high lumen density.
SMD LED
Surface Mounted Device; LEDs that are mounted directly onto the surface of printed circuit boards.
LED Module
A self-contained device that includes LED chips, optical components, and sometimes a driver, ready to be installed in a fixture.
Driverless LED
An LED system that operates directiy from AC power without a traditional externalswiching power supply typically using integrated circuits on the board.
Short Circuit Protection
A safety feature that automatically cuts off the power when a short circuitis detected to prevent fire or damage to the components.
